Shishangeni is the main lodge of the three camps that I photographed. It has everything you need including a conference room, tv room, library, spa facilities, pool, 2 bars and a beautiful setting next to the Crocodile river.
At night you hear the endless laugh of hyenas and the beautiful gushing sound of the river while falling asleep. The chalets are spread quite far apart so you have great privacy while also feeling like you are in the middle of the bush. There were a few times where I got quite a fright when walking over the decked pathways to my room – Bushbuck, Warthogs and Nyalas are often eating or hiding beneath the pathways so when you walk over them you give them a fright who then give you a fright!
The game viewing in this concession is awesome. Being in the Kruger Park, you are given the opportunity to view countless animals and the big 5, which I saw on the first day. I also saw my first Civet! He casually walked across the road and we were the only car around – the cars that belong to Shishangeni, Shawu and Shonga are the only ones you will see during your visit here. The first morning we watched 4 male lions eat a buffalo and that evening we saw two leopards in the space of 100m.
I would definitely recommend this camp to people who like not being completely isolated in the bush and who enjoy the company of other travelers, being quite a large lodge you are bound to bump into other people while Shawu and Shonga are more romantic and isolated. Enjoy the pictures!
