This was probably my favourite of the 3 camps that make up Shishangeni. The lodge is located right on the water – a huge dam that is full of life and activity. There must be hundreds of hippos living there and you often see elephants and all the other plains game surrounding it.
The luxury tents are perched just above the ground and give fantastic views of the dam and wildlife. They are beautifully decorated too, with outdoor showers looking over the water and a gas fire to keep you warm at night. The sounds at night are amazing and it feels like the hippos are right beneath you. It can be a little scary sometimes but that is all about the experience of staying at Shawu! You really feel like you are one with nature and are visiting their area.
Waking up to beautiful sunrise over the mountain that spreads warm rays over the water is a stunning sight too so when you visit make sure to wake up and watch it! The lodge is intimate and romantic and definitely worth a visit. One thing is for sure, you’ll find yourself sitting on the loungers on the deck with a G ‘n T in hand watching the wildlife around the water for hours on end.
