Ant’s nest in the Waterberg is a beautiful spot just outside of Vaalwater. The property is made up of Ant’s nest and Ant’s hill and caters specifically for riding safaris. It was only my second time on a riding safari and I absolutely loved it. There is something so special about being a part of nature in this special way. The animals are so much more relaxed while you are on horseback. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves the bush!

The lodges are all beautifully decorated by the owner, Tessa, who has taken inspiration from East Africa. Think wooden log arches, bright and colourful kikoys, swahili inspired wooden beds and furniture and rock feature walls. Ant’s hill is lodged on the side of the cliff giving incredible views of the Waterberg which I don’t think could get any better.

Activities include riding safaris, guided walks, game drives and mountain biking. The great thing about staying there is that you get to pick exactly which one of these you wish to do twice daily, which I thought was a real bonus. The food was absolutely incredible too!
